This privacy policy governs your use of the software application Ordered! (“Application”) for iOS mobile devices that was created by Michael Miller. The Application enables users to save to their device a list of places and items associated with those places. The Application optionally uses location data, as described below, when searching for places to help narrow the results to those closest to the user. This option is provided as a convenience to the user, but is not in any way required for the Application to provide intended functionality. By enabling Location Services, the user is granting permission for the device’s location (latitude and longitude) to be transmitted to and used by Google Maps to help narrow the list of matching results to those locations nearest to you. If you choose to enable location services, you may disable them at any time using device settings.
This Application utilizes Google Places API Web Services (part of the Google Maps API collection) to provide location-based search results and also download information on the establishments that you search for and add to your list of places. Specifically, the Google Place Autocomplete API is used to generate search results from the your text and, if enabled, your device’s location, and the Google Place Details API is used to download information on the specific establishment that you select from the search results. All usage of Google Maps in the Application, regardless of if Location Services are enabled, are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, which you can read here: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy. By choosing to utilize the search feature of this Application, which is powered by Google Maps, you acknowledge and accept Google’s Privacy Policy as well as the privacy policy outlined below.
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
1. Is information requested from the user?
Other than location information, as described in detail below in questions 3 and 4, this Application does not request from you, collect, store, or explicitly transmit any personally identifiable information. As part of the core functionality of this Application, you are invited to save places and items to lists in your Application, as well as details about those items (such as descriptions, ratings, and notes). The places and items that you save to your lists are stored on your device exclusively and are not transmitted or shared in any way by the Application.
2. Is there any automatically collected information?
By using Google Maps services (which, in this Application, includes the search feature exclusively), you acknowledge and accept the potential collection and use of user-specific data when making a search request, as outlined in Google’s Privacy Policy at http://www.google.com/policies/privacy. However, as mentioned, the Application itself does not request any information from you, and the data that is transmitted explicitly and intentionally by the Application to Google Maps is limited to your search string and the latitude and longitude of your device, as described in questions 3 and 4 below (if you have Location Services enabled).
3. Does the Application collect location information of the device?
If you choose to enable Location Services, then yes, the Application will obtain the device’s location while the Application is in use and use that location in two specific ways that are intended to serve as conveniences to you, as outlined in question 4 below.
If you choose to disable Location Services, the device’s location data is not obtained, stored, explicitly transmitted, or used in any way. Please note that, by using the search feature powered by Google Maps, you acknowledge and accept the potential use and collection of data related to your search request, as outlined in Google’s Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy).
You will be notified about the use of location data, as detailed in question 4 below, via the Location Services prompt and asked for permission before location data is obtained or used by Google Maps. As the usages of location data are intended solely as conveniences, if you elect not to allow the collection of location data, the core functionality of the Application will remain intact.
4. How does the Application use location information, as outlined in question 3?
If the user enables Location Services, then the Application will obtain, use, and/or transmit location data in the following ways and for the described purposes:
a. When the user utilizes the search bar to search for a location, the latitude and longitude of the device’s location will be transmitted along with the entered search text to Google Place Autocomplete API, which returns up to five locations (“predictions”) for that given search string, updated as you type. The latitude and longitude of the device are used by Google Place Autocomplete to help narrow the list possible search results to establishments that are nearer to the device’s location, prioritizing establishments that are within 50 miles of the transmitted latitude and longitude.

As outlined in this documentation, if a latitude and longitude are not provided (i.e. the user elects not to enable Location Services), “the API will attempt to detect the user's location from their IP address, and will bias the results to that location. If you would prefer to have no location bias, set the location to '0,0' and radius to '20000000' (20 thousand kilometers), to encompass the entire world.” This Application utilizes the latter approach (“no location bias”), in which the user’s IP address is not used to identify user location, and subsequently, the search results will reveal no preference to location.
b. When the user displays the “Map” tab of the Application, the location of the device is displayed as a blue beacon; if the user has elected not to not enable Location Services, the blue location beacon will not appear on the map. The location data that is obtained for this purpose is not stored on the device, transmitted, or used in any way other than to display the device’s location on the map. Although this feature is not related to nor does it utilize Google Maps, it will also be disabled if Location Services are disabled.
The Application provides a full faith attempt to honor your location preference, and if you elect to disable Location Services, the Application will not explicitly obtain or transmit anything pertaining to your device’s location. However, as noted already, by using the search feature powered by Google Maps, you acknowledge the potential use and collection of data related to your search request, as outlined in Google’s Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy). If you wish to prevent any and all potential use of user-specific data, you are encouraged to disable Location Services and utilize the “manual entry” feature for entering new places. This feature is accessible by tapping the “Can’t find what you’re looking for?” row in the “Find a Place” screen and typing the name of the location.
5. Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?
If the user enables Location Services and utilizes the location search feature, the location (latitude and longitude) of the device and your search text will be transmitted to and used by Google Places API Web Services to help narrow the list of matching results to those locations nearest to you. Google is the only third party to which this Application explicitly sends information. Please note that, as outlined in question 2 above, if you disable Location Services and continue to use the search feature, although the latitude and longitude of the device’s location is no longer being transmitted explicitly, possible use and collection of data related to your search request to the Google Maps API may still be occurring, as outlined in Google’s Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy).
6. How can I fully prevent any potential use of user-specific data and still use the Application?
As mentioned in question 4 above, if you wish to prevent any and all potential use of user-specific data, you are encouraged to disable Location Services for the Application and utilize the “manual entry” feature for entering new places. This feature is accessible by tapping the “Can’t find what you’re looking for?” row in the “Find a Place” screen and manually typing the name of the location (note that places entered this way will not appear on the “Map” tab, and there will not be an address or Google Page associated with the place).
Data Retention & Security
Location data is only obtained, used, and/or transmitted while the Application is in use, and device location data is not stored or persisted on the device in any way while the Application is not in use. Data related to the places and items that you save to your lists in the Application are stored on your device exclusively and are not transmitted or shared in any way. Although the Application is designed to function safely and transmit your search queries to Google Maps API securely, no system can guarantee absolute security when it comes to network-based transmissions. Children
This Application is not intentionally marketed to children, nor does it knowingly obtain location data from them. If a parent or guardian becomes aware of that his or her child is utilizing the features of this Application that involve the device’s location without his or her consent, he or she should disable Location Services and/or remove the Application entirely from the device.
Changes
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time for any reason, and will absolutely be updated in the event changes are made to the way location and other data are obtained and used. Please review this policy for any updates with each update to the Application.
